How To Maintain Your Laundry Trough Sink

Maintaining your laundry through sinks is a relatively easy task. All you need to do is follow these simple steps on a regular basis.

1) Colored Powder Coating

A powder coating is applied to the surface of your trough sink to help maintain its appearance. This can be easily cleaned off with very hot water and a sponge or scrub brush.

2) Rust Stains

If you notice any rust stains on the surface of your sink, don’t panic! Just lightly sand the affected area with 80-grit sandpaper, then rinse and dry. A paste of baking soda and salt can also be applied before rinsing to help with the cleaning process.

3) Mildew & Mold

Your trough sink will accumulate mold and mildew if you don’t use it often enough. A solution of equal parts bleach and water is your best bet for these stains. Simply scrub the area with this solution, then rinse and dry.

4) Fixtures & Hardware

Maintain your hardware by keeping it clean and free of rust. Check for loose screws on a regular basis, tightening them as necessary. Your sink is also fitted with rubber gaskets to help keep water in the sink when it’s not in use. These also need to be checked, making sure are they are secure before each time you use your sink.

5) Scratches

Lightly sand scratches found on the surface of your trough sink with 80-grit sandpaper then clean and dry. You will want to apply a coat of powder coating after you have finished helping protect the surface of your sink.

6) Pitting & Rust Stains

Don’t bother cleaning these rust stains, as they are permanent! The best course of action is to replace these affected areas or if possible, replace the entire sink. If you are replacing one area, make sure you use a corrosion-resistant metal such as stainless steel.

Maintaining your laundry through sinks is easy to do with just a little bit of care. It will save you money in the long run, as cleaning can be done easily with simple household items like bleach and baking soda. If any part needs to be replaced, common sense should tell you if it’s worth putting that kind of work into repairing it.
